Weekend in New Orleans

Friday afternoon Kristi, Taylor, and I left for New Orleans. I had just been there about two months ago but my mother was going to be there for a conference, so we decided to drive over for the weekend and do some of the touristy stuff. Just after arriving Friday evening we met up with my mother and went to dinner at Acme Oyster House. It was pretty incredible. We had some of their chargilled oysters and they were amazing. Later we headed out to Bourbon Street to get a Hand Grenade from the Tropical Isle, we had to walk a little farther as the bar we normally would have gone to caught fire recently. I learned my lesson last time though and only drank one this trip. We headed back to the hotel fairly early, so we could get a good start on Saturday. We went to a few museums and the big church in the French Quarter, it was nice, but too much walking had my legs hurting pretty bad so I went back to the hotel for awhile.

For dinner that night we met up with my mom and sister at the Hard Rock cafe, it was ok, the wait staff seemed a little slow, made a few mistakes. It wasn't very busy there either.

Today we got up early and had breakfast with my mom at the restaurant in the hotel, it was a pretty good buffet. We then went on a tour through St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, which was a little disappointing, the catholic cemetery in downtown Pensacola is much more interesting. We did get to see the tomb that Marie Laveau is suppossed to be in. The offerings that are left to the Voodoo Queen are pretty interesting, several bottles of booze, a few small bottles of Tabasco sauce, a worn copy of Atlas Shrugged, and a bunch of Mardi Gras beads and tokens.

It was a pretty nice weekend.
