What have I been up to in the last year? Well, after finishing my degree at PJC, I started going to school at UWF. A few weeks into my first semester my wife got word that she was going to be tasked to go to DC to assist in starting up a new office for the VA. So it was looking like she was going to be traveling back and forth between Pensacola and DC for awhile.
Most of my classes at the time were online so I was able to visit DC in late July of last year, which was pretty cool.
While I was in DC I received a phone call from Keesler Air Force Base. I had forgotten that I had applied for a job in February to work on the telephone switch there, and without an interview I had landed the job. They wanted me to come in as soon as I could so I hopped on a plane back to Pensacola and went to work for the Air Force in early August. It was a nice job and everyone I worked with were really great, but before I had even finished in-processing Kristi got word that the DC office wanted her to stay on permanently. So two weeks into my new job I let them know that I would be leaving for DC at the beginning of September.
While I was visiting DC I was introduced to a few other people who were working in different areas of communications technology and one of them was able to arrange a phone interview for a contract position at DISA, so I was able to move up to DC with a job already waiting for me. The new job was great, and the people I work for/with at DISA were fun to be around, but the company I worked for did not have a great reputation with DISA, so not long after moving up here we were told that the company would not be competing to win the contract again. I really liked the job and people so i wanted to stay in the position, so the company that won the contract hired me.
The office I work in moved from Arlington, Va to Ft. Meade, MD so the commute is a few miles more, but it's worth it.
I've been to a few great shows since I have been up here, so I will have to write another post on those soon maybe.
