I should have done this sooner..

I should have posted about going to see Hall & Oates sooner, but I have been busy finishing my research paper for school.

Sunday night at the Pensacola Civic Center was pretty great. Walking in I was surprised at how small the whole setup was. There were curtains blocking more than half of the Civic Center, if I had to guessI would say they might have been using a third of the entire place. It was nice, because we were on the forth row, nearly center stage. Our seats were good, but I don't think anyone had a bad seat since the set was so small.

We arrived around 7:40, the guy opening for them was already on stage. He said his name a few times but I couldn't really understand it, He was talented, but his style of music bored me, it sounded like Jack Johnson but it wasn't him..you could have interchanged the two..He wasn't doing anything special at all.

The tickets said 8:00 PM and I would have to say I have never seen a band go on when they are supposed to, until now. It was pretty awesome to see these guys who I had seen on MTV while I was a kid come out on stage, and on time. John Oates was one of the first guys out on the stage, he is shorter than I had imagined, still the same hair from the 80's. The only thing missing is the mustache. Daryl Hall came out and said a few words about the intimate atmosphere. I wonder what it's like going from being the 4th most popular act of the 80's(behind Madonna,Michael Jackson, and Prince) to playing to a fairly small crowd in Pensacola. I mean don't get me wrong, I didn't feel like I was seeing Great White perform in some doomed club, I wouldn't call them washed up, but where have they been for the last twenty years. I was sad for a moment because here is one of the most talented groups I have ever heard, and when you turn on the radio today what do you hear? Shit like Schwayze and Chemical Romance. Where did all the good music go? I am getting off topic. The first song they started to play was Maneater and I was really blown away, I have seen a lot of bands live and a lot of bands do not sound like their recordings, but Daryl Hall's voice is amazing even after all these years.

They played for nearly two hours before leaving the stage, then came back for two encores. It was a pretty outstanding evening.
